Based on the popular Nickelodeon television show Avatar: The Last Airbender, this movie most certainly delivers. It follows a young boy, named Aang who is played by Noah Ringer.
The world is divided into four elements Air, Earth, Water, and Fire. The Avatar supervises the these elements and keeps them all in check, with the help from the spirits in the spirit world, which only the Avatar can pass between worlds. The Avatar is also the only person that can master all four elements, able to bend each one.
At the ceremony in which he is chosen to become the Avatar, he becomes scared and runs away and is not seen for 100 years. While he is away, the Fire Nation launches an attack on the Air Nation, the one Aang belonged to, killing everyone there. Since Aang ran away, he was not harmed in this attack, but he became trapped in the ice somehow.
We meet siblings Katara and Sokka, played by Nicola Peltz and Jackson Rathbone, from the southern water tribe, who later become Aang's friends in this adventure. Katara and Sokka come across something in the ice and attempt to see what it is, it was Aang and his flying bison Appa. The siblings take Aang to their home when a sect of the Fire nation come to investigate a strange occurrence Katara and Sokka found Aang.
The leader of this sect is Prince Zuko, played by Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire). He was banish by his father, the Fire Nation king Fire Lord Ozai. While at the camp, Zuko finds Aang and forces him to come with. Aang escapes from the ship after realising that he is being taken to the Fire Nation, and meets up with Katara, Sokka, and Appa. The adventure begins from there, their destinies interlaced together.

As a fan of the show, I was really pleased with this movie. Of course like all shows to movies, just like books to movies, there will be some scrutiny. They will not be able to capture everything from the show, but the essence is there. The acting was better than I had expected, and I had expected them to do well. Noah Ringer, first time actor, was wonderful in this, despite that it was his first time acting.
I definitely recommend this movie to everyone, even if you had not seen the television show. It is still pleasing to the eyes, and the acting is not terrible. You will be entertained throughout the movie. I hope my little background of the movie interests you into seeing this film.
I hope you enjoyed the review, and I do hope you check this movie out!!
I'm so glad to hear that you liked it! I have been hearing/reading such bad reviews all over the internet that I had lost hope that it would be good. I think we are going to see it this weekend.
